Packed with great ideas
The North East Regional Museums Hub has just published Exploring Literacy though Museums, an account of a partnership that brought museums and schools together to develop cross-curricular schemes of work that use museum visits as inspiration for writing.
Through case studies and examples of pupils’ work this booklet shows how to use collections as starting points for a range of writing, including newspaper reports, playscripts and adventure stories. Samples of work marked by teachers show that 70% of pupils improved their writing by at least one National Curriculum sub-level by the end of the project, with a quarter making progress of two or more sub-levels.
