South Western Federation of Museums and Art Galleries

South West Fed seeks next Chair

In July, the South West Fed will be appointing a new Chair. The vacancy is now open to applications, and information can be found below. The new chair will be taking over from Anna Bryant who has been in the role since 2016. Anna's passion, commitment, and collaborative and supportive nature has helped to shape and strengthen the future of the charity.

Anna said:

"Come July I’m planning to hand the reins over to the next Chair of the South West Fed. It’s been a privilege to lead the organisation this far and to have had the opportunity to make a contribution towards its present and future, despite the sometimes bumpy ride! I’ve most enjoyed being part of the opportunities we create to connect people – whether that be personally through our Conference and Forums or digitally through our website, eBulletin and social media. I certainly come away inspired and I know others do too. I’ve also enjoyed collaborating with the fantastic Fed board members, who give their time freely because they genuinely believe in the power of the South West heritage sector to do good, and in the role of the Fed in that as an independent voice. Personally, it’s been a great opportunity to get to know colleagues and organisations from across the whole South West, as well as developing specific skills around governance and membership organisations, to name but two. I’m very excited about the Fed’s steps towards actively embracing the wider heritage sector in its remit, and believe this will make both the broader heritage sector and the Fed stronger, together."

The vacancy is an exciting opportunity for an individual to lead the South West Fed in its role as a key player, advocate and innovator in the sector. We are looking for someone with drive, vision and energy to maintain and develop the South West Fed’s current direction, activities and relationships.

About the role

The Chair will lead on strategy, governance and finances and be a key advocate for the South West Fed and the sector. The Chair choreographs partnerships, develops membership offers and broadens the South West Fed’s reach to the wider heritage sector. They support the delivery of membership activities such as networking events, with the wider Board, and bridge the gap between strategic activity and understanding the grassroots challenges and opportunities the membership and sector are facing.
