Military Museum Assistant Manager - The Keep Military Museum

To support the day-to-day running of the museum, including tasks such as administration and managing the shop and volunteer team.
Running front of house/shop/web-shop.
Organising and managing day-to-day a team of volunteers.
Administration (including telephone, visitor enquiries, communications, social media and cash-handling/book-keeping).
Acting as minutes secretary for the Board of Trustees and other Museum committees.
Managing the Museum’s ticket desk and the team of volunteers who run it to provide a welcoming and efficient experience for our visitors. This will include maintaining a rota of desk cover, assisting in the recruitment and training of volunteers, creating electronic/written guides for volunteers and staff to follow, and personally manning the desk when required.
Managing the Museum shop – working with the volunteer shop manager on stock identification, purchase and monitoring. This will include our online shop/telephone sales, processing orders and despatching items by post.
Dealing with visitor enquiries and requests in person, and via telephone, email and letters (including complimentary ticket requests), and providing visitor information.
Assisting with day-to-day recording, including cashing up, till balances, invoices and payments, expenses, banking, claiming Gift Aid, posting information via cloud-based accounting software and preparing information for the annual accounts.
Providing other administrative support, including helping to arrange and prepare talks and visits, creating publicity and presentations.
Helping to manage the Museum’s social media presence and website, updating content and responding promptly to messages.
Teamwork and being flexible with time and focus to support others – mucking in!
Experience in a customer-facing role and/or retail environment.
Experience of managing volunteers/staff.
Organisational skills and experience providing an administrative support service.
Experience on Microsoft Office/IT (essential) and digital/social media (desirable).
Ability to work independently in a small team working with the public.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Some Saturday/bank holiday/evening work may also be required.
An interest in history is desirable but not essential.
