Volunteers required to support school visits, specifically on wednesdays during term times but other times if convenient.
The East Somerset Railway at Cranmore, near Shepton Mallet, Somerset, is a fantastic site for exploring railway history. We are a 2.5mile, 160-year old heritage railway with 4 stations, a working Engine Shed, a signal box, miniature railway, Discovery Centre, café, shop and a variety of rolling stock, restoration projects, diesel and steam locomotives, brimming with expertise and experience.
What will you be doing? -Teach various themes and topics with enthusiasm and focus -Create your own resources and design your own sessions if you wish to -Enthusing and encouraging pupils of all abilities and ages in learning outside the classroom -Working with visiting teachers to ensure a positive experience for all pupils and staff -Working adaptably as a team for the duration of each visit -Ensuring health & safety requirements are met
What we will need from you • A sunny, positive attitude to learning, teaching & young people • A pro-active, hands-on and interactive approach
• A commitment to providing the best experience possible and ensuring young visitors (and their accompanying adults!) leave the ESR with positive memories and learning experiences • An enthusiasm for history, the local area, significant individuals such as Brunel and the origins, growth and impact of the railway network. • No qualifications are required but a passion to, & aptitude in, work with young people is a must.
