Education team Volunteers - The East Somerset Railway

Volunteers required to support school visits, specifically on wednesdays during term times but other times if convenient.

The East Somerset Railway at Cranmore, near Shepton Mallet, Somerset, is a fantastic site for exploring railway history. We are a 2.5mile, 160-year old heritage railway with 4 stations, a working Engine Shed, a signal box, miniature railway, Discovery Centre, café, shop and a variety of rolling stock, restoration projects, diesel and steam locomotives, brimming with expertise and experience. What will you be doing?
-Teach various themes and topics with enthusiasm and focus
-Create your own resources and design your own sessions if you wish to
-Enthusing and encouraging pupils of all abilities and ages in learning outside the classroom
-Working with visiting teachers to ensure a positive experience for all pupils and staff
-Working adaptably as a team for the duration of each visit
-Ensuring health & safety requirements are met What we will need from you
• A sunny, positive attitude to learning, teaching & young people
• A pro-active, hands-on and interactive approach
• A commitment to providing the best experience possible and ensuring young visitors (and their accompanying adults!) leave the ESR with positive memories and learning experiences
• An enthusiasm for history, the local area, significant individuals such as Brunel and the origins, growth and impact of the railway network.
• No qualifications are required but a passion to, & aptitude in, work with young people is a must.
