Business & Collections Support Officer - Torre Abbey Museum
Posted March 26, 2019 at 15:29 PM
We are looking for a new member of staff to join our busy team here at Torre Abbey! Torre Abbey is one of the region’s key cultural assets with a unique collection and a growing reputation for innovative exhibitions and community engagement. The business will soon be engaging in an application for a 3rd major restoration project, to increase the structural integrity of the site and further develop commercial stability.
Listed as a scheduled ancient monument, the site includes two Grade 1 listed buildings and five Grade 2 listed buildings, extensively redeveloped during two previous restoration phases. Torre Abbey is a truly unique place to work.
This role is similar to that of a traditional collections registrar, but with elements of business administration. Work will involve delivering Torre Abbey’s Collections Documentation Plan and overseeing the work of the team of collections documentation volunteers. The role will also include the ongoing digitalisation of the collection onto our Collections Management System.
The post will be closely involved with the work of the programming team and particularly relevant to incoming exhibitions and the associated loan agreements. Other work strands will be varied. For example, developing a ‘handling collection’ in collaboration with Torre Abbey’s Education Officer or engaging in sourcing works from the collection for rotation of permanent displays.
The administration element of the role will focus on bookings, generating purchase orders and income banking.
Applicants should be able to evidence experience of collection care, documentation, interpretation and research. Advanced organisational skills and an attention to detail are priorities.
Working days are negotiable and are predominantly weekdays. However, sometimes evening and weekend working may be required to support Torre Abbey’s activities.
