National Trust is Wales’ largest charity with over one hundred and fifty thousand members and six thousand volunteers. The Trust protects and opens to the public some of Wales’ finest castles, houses, gardens and industrial sites as well as one hundred and sixty miles of coastline and thousands of acres of the Welsh countryside.

In a time of change and uncertainty the Trust in Wales is looking for three new advisory board members, particularly people with knowledge/experience in the tourism, museum interpretation and political decision making areas, who will work with us to grow the triple bottom line strategy of the Trust. Simply put, to balance conservation excellence, financial strength and at the same time deliver for the people of Wales and those that visit our country a wonderful and rewarding experience.

Volunteer: Curator – Somerset & Dorset Railway Trust


The Trust is looking for a Hon. Curator to continue and to build upon the work that has been ongoing for the past 50 years to keep alive the history and importance of the Somerset & Dorset Railway and its predecessor companies, through preservation, custodianship, display and interpretation of material evidence (including artefacts, archives and oral testimony). Our aim is to promote and facilitate public understanding of the significance of the Somerset & Dorset Railway as a major cross-country rail route, its importance to the communities through which it passed, and the social impact of its closure.

Voluntary role: Trustees – Somerset and Dorset Railway Trust


The Trust is looking for new Trustees to continue and to build upon the work that has been ongoing for the past 50 years; that of keeping alive the history and importance of the Somerset and Dorset Railway through preservation, custodianship, display and interpretation of material evidence. We are seeking a new generation of Trustees to assist in developing the Trust for the future. All applicants are welcome; we are particularly interested in hearing from those with experience in the following: Development Planning (preferably with some knowledge of HLF funding), Forward Planning, Management of Volunteers (Including Recruitment) Publicity/Press, Fundraising and Governance.

Museum Mentor wanted for Watchet Market House Museum

Watchet Market House MuseumWatchet Market House Museum in Somerset is looking for a new Museum Mentor for Accreditation.

The museum focuses on the history of Watchet and the immediate surrounding area with a strong emphasis on social, maritime and industrial history. In addition the museum houses fossil collections and displays through the stone age to the Romano British period within its 19th Century building; Watchet’s former Market House. The museum regularly attracts over 30,000 visitors during opening season (March – October) and is supported by a large group of volunteer stewards.

The museum has Full Accreditation and does not need to complete their Accreditation Return until 2018.

Under the Accreditation scheme a Museum Mentor will provide the museum with professional advice and input into policy development and decision making.

To be a Museum Mentor you must have

  • A minimum of 5 years of working professionally within a museum and with recent experience at a curator/manager level
  • Relevant or linked qualification
  • A commitment to career long CPD

Research has shown that you should expect to provide up to 4 days a year support to the museum – including a minimum of two site visits.
