Book now for Open Doors 2010

'Great atmosphere, informal and friendly. Liked all the talks/case studies. Great ideas.'

Following feedback like that from last year's Open Door meeting in Salisbury, a whole host of inspuirational and informative speakers have agreed to talk at this year's series of meetings across the our region. This year we are going to:

Radstock Museum (www.radstockmuseum.co.uk) on Monday 18 October.  Topic: collections care. Speakers: David Singleton, Heklena Jaeschke, Marta Leskard.

Penlee House Gallery and Museum, Penzance (www.penleehouse.org.uk) on Monday 25 October.  Topic: cultural tourism and partnership working.  Speakers: Alison Bevan, Nicola Moyle, Miranda Bird.

Poole Museum (www.boroughofpoole.com/museums) on Tuesday 16th November.  Topic: income generation.  Speakers: Philippa Davies, Michael Spender, Natalie Watson, Richard Smith.

The format of the day is similar at each venue, with news from museums and updates on developments in the museum sector in the morning and the afternoon devoted to the special topic.  There will be keynote speakers at each venue and case studies presented by local museums.  There will be plenty of opportunity to exchange ideas and network throughout the day.  Each session will finish with a tour of the host museum.

With the restructuring of Renaissance next year, the demise of MLA scheduled for April 2012 and the austerity measures which threaten us all, there has never been such an important time for museums, their staff and volunteers to work together to ensure we weather the storm.  We are sure you will pick up useful tips and make valuable contacts at these days, so please book up now.

The days are open to Federation members and non-members and are free to attend, thanks to the support of Renaissance SW.  Click the links below for the programmes
