Cornwall has some 30 small museums that collect and display the material cultural heritage of their communities. These museums – which operate at a number of levels of development - are served by the Cornwall Collections Development Officer working from the Royal Cornwall Museum, the Hub museum for the region. The Royal Cornwall Museum has also appointed a Cornwall Collections Manager who will address the collections management needs of small museums at a practical level. A Museum Resource Centre currently being established will be able to provide appropriate equipment for this purpose.
Museum networks operate in south west Cornwall and southeast Cornwall and another will soon be established to service the Restormel Borough Council area. These networks provide forums for the exchange of information and for training, and encourage the development of joint projects that operate to the benefit of the sector.
