Next Meeting:
1st 2 weeks of Jan 2009 - Venue, time & Chair to be confirmed
Background:
The idea for a Bristol Museum Group was first raised at a meeting of invited museums from Bristol at the SS Great Britain on the 25th of June 2007. Those present declared a need for a Bristol museum group to provide an informal communication network between all the museums of Bristol.
The first meeting was set for the 20th July at the British Empire & Commonwealth Museum and a draft set of aims and working principles was established. The group was named the 'Forum for Museums in Bristol'.
The aims of the group were established as:
- To provide an informal forum for sharing information and best practice amongst the museums of Bristol
- To provide a conduit for communication between the museums of Bristol and the regional museum organisations, including: SW Museum Hub, MLA South West and South Western Federation of Museums & Art Galleries. Communication with SW Fed should be by a voted in rep – this post is currently taken by Helen Horler at ss Great Britain
- To look for ways is which the museums of Bristol can benefit from joint initiatives either as a whole group or between museums to extend their potential to build capacity
- To be mutually supportive of the work and aims of all museums in Bristol
- To endeavour to keep the group ‘informal’ and run in a simple manner, using e-communication when ever possible
If you would like to know more about the Forum for Museums in Bristol, please contact the Federation Co-ordinator or the Bristol County Rep
