Background

Bristol has a diverse range of both independent and city council museums comprising Bristol City Museum, Gallery and Archives, Bristol Industrial Museum, The Georgian House Museum, The Red Lodge Museum, Blaise Castle House Museum, The British Empire and Commonwealth Museum and the ss Great Britain. The Bristol City Museum, Gallery and Archives is the lead Hub museum for the south west. Federation members also include the Bristol University Theatre Collection and the Fine Art Conservation Studio. There are currently 3 institutional members and 15 individual federation members in Bristol.

The museums of Bristol have recently established a communication group called the 'Forum for Museums in Bristol' to 'Provide an informal forum for sharing information and best practice amongst the museums of Bristol'
