Alison Bevan (née Lloyd) is Director of Penlee House Gallery & Museum, Penzance, which specialises in exhibiting the work of the Newlyn, Lamorna and St Ives colonies, 1880-1940. After graduating in Art History from Nottingham University, she spent a 14-year career in public galleries in Wales, during which time she was on the Committee of the Federation of Museums and Galleries of Wales. She took up her present post in 1999 and has since gained a reputation as an expert on Newlyn School paintings, on which she has written and has lectured in the UK, USA and Europe. She is currently a Museums Association Mentor and Trustee and Honorary Secretary of the West Cornwall Art Archive, as well as being the Federation’s Secretary. Alison says she was delighted to join the Committee of the South Western Federation as she feels that Federations play a vital role in representing and supporting Museum professionals and volunteers in their region.
